Camden and Islington have a ‘healthy’ new intranet

The existing intranet system had been developed in-house, and no longer met the needs of the expanding organisation. Staff were experiencing difficulties in accessing information using their current intranet. The Trust decided that in order to effectively communicate with their many NHS sites it was necessary to introduce a new intranet.

A rigorous tender process was undertaken, with Camden and Islington stipulating the following requirements:-

• A system that is easy to use

• Cost effective

• A good search engine to enable staff easy access to documents.

• A flexible product that could meet existing and future business needs.

After much careful consideration, C&I chose SORCE as their new intranet solution provider. They were impressed by the document management system which included a good search facility, contacts directory and phone book.

Peter Gooch, C&I’s Associate Director of ICT said, “I had previously worked with SORCE at another NHS Trust site and my experience with them was a very positive one. I was impressed by their knowledge and expertise”.

Plans for the new intranet are to initially implement in the IT department then roll it out to all other departments. Web intranet and development officer Anna Quayle said “we are really pleased with the look and feel of the new site that SORCE have provided for us”.

Camden and Islington’s primary focus will be on using the document management system, with future plans to expand to an extranet so stakeholders such as GPs can have access to relevant Trust information.
