NHS Dumfries & Galloway Deliver their new SORCE Intranet
Galloway is the region in the far South West of Scotland stretching from Stranraer in the West to Langholm in the East, Moffat to the North and Gretna Green in the South. This is an area of some 10,000 square kilometres.
NHS Dumfries & Galloway is responsible for the delivery of all the healthcare services to the population of approximately 150,000 via 35 GP Practices, and some 10 Community Hospitals and Health Centres. The main acute services are based in the Royal Infirmary (DGRI) in Dumfries town. The Galloway Community Hospital (GCH) in Stranraer also delivers a small range of acute services. They employ some 5000 staff across the region, many of which are based in the GP Practices and Health Centres as well as the main centres in DGRI and GCH.
NHS Dumfries and Galloway needed to replace their existing intranet solution. The existing platform had been in use for several years and served its purpose well. However, the intranet was difficult to maintain and restricted in terms of functionality. After a comprehensive tendering process SORCE was selected to provide the new intranet solution.
The SORCE platform offered a variety of feature rich applications in particular Document Management. The application will reduce clinical risk with easy access to the latest policies and procedures. Other applications that will be deployed are Article Publisher, Contacts and Event Manager.
SORCE was also selected for its flexibility. The ability to customise and build new applications using the Application Development Environment is a great way for NHS Dumfries and Galloway to take complete ownership of the intranet development.
SORCE recently attended the NHS Dumfries and Galloway IT open day. The day helped showcase new technologies being embraced by the organisation whilst educating staff how dynamic technology like SORCE will enhance their working experience.
