ACL, which coordinates all the major airports in UK and Ireland, has recently implemented a SORCE intranet

Airports in the United Kingdom are some of the busiest in Europe receiving millions of passengers and hundreds of flights on a daily basis. ACL is responsible for the smooth operation of these airports by managing the slots for the many different airlines landing and taking off every year. The slot allocation process enables ACL to balance the supply and demand for scarce airport capacity in order to avoid unnecessary congestion and delays.

ACL was the world’s first independent organisation responsible for slot allocation and its business model, organisation and structure has been copied by many other newly-formed coordination agencies in Europe.

Today ACL provides coordination services at all of the major airports in the United Kingdom and Ireland including: Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Stansted, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London Luton, London City, Newcastle, Bristol, Cardiff, Southampton, Jersey, Liverpool, Dublin, Shannon Belfast International and Belfast City.

With offices around the country ACL’s intranet plays a vital role in facilitating communication within their organisation. ACL had previously developed their intranet in house to meet their specific business needs.

Peter Morrisroe the Managing Director commented: “As an organisation that relies heavily on our intranet we began to realise the limitations of our in house solution. We wanted to find a system with all the benefits of an out-of-the-box product (the support, maintenance and quick implementation) but with the ability to customise the solution to fit our complex business needs. The SORCE intranet product was able to fulfil our requirements providing us with the ability to customise their existing applications to suit our business.”

From managing human resources to supporting risk management within the company, ACL’s new SORCE intranet improves the efficiency of day to day communication throughout the organisation. As well as internal communications, ACL’s new intranet helps facilitate the relationships with their customers. Using the intranets help desk functionality, accurate and timely support information can be communicated by ACL to its clients.

John Nicklin, Business Development Director at SORCE said: “For companies like ACL, who rely on their intranet to deliver business specific functionality, the SORCE intranet is an ideal solution. In addition to the core applications the SORCE intranet enables organisations to easily tailor (and build) applications to fit their own business processes.”
