Umeco Component’s Mercury Intranet Connects Operations Worldwide with SORCE

Umeco plc is a leading international provider of value-added distribution services and composite materials to the aerospace & defence, automotive, motorsport (F1) and wind turbine industries. The company also has significant interests in advanced composite materials for a growing range of applications in its core markets.

Umeco has three main divisions; Components, Composites and Repair and Overhaul. The group’s facilities are based throughout the world in Singapore, USA, Europe and Canada to support the worldwide operations of clients such as Airbus, Boeing and BAE Systems. As Umeco’s divisions and customers are spread throughout the globe they rely on technology to run their operations efficiently and effectively. One of the cornerstones of the company’s internal communications and collaboration is their SORCE intranet.

Umeco Components selected SORCE as the best solution for their intranet. Among their reasons for choosing SORCE are the fact that it is a packaged solution that can be implemented rapidly, it can be updated easily by non-IT personnel and from day one users can deploy a comprehensive portfolio of business applications that are already built into the product.

Andy Yates, Information Management Director at Umeco Components commented, “We are a worldwide operation with over 1400 highly dedicated personnel working for us. With the SORCE intranet we have a reliable way to make sure that they all have access to the information they need to do their job more effectively on behalf of our clients. Just as importantly, it provides a secure environment where our people can share best practice, seek advice from their colleagues and let everyone in Umeco know who they are and what they do.”

The Umeco intranet, called Mercury after the Roman messenger of the gods, is also fully customised to the company’s brand ‘look and feel’. This is a key capability of the SORCE product as it enables organisations such as UMECO to reinforce the company’s brand identity in all its internal communication with employees as well as in its external marketing material.

John Nicklin, Sales Business Development Director at SORCE, commented, “Umeco is typical of many of our customers in the respect that they rely upon their Intranet to manage timely and effective communication with their employee worldwide. In addition, the Intranet encourages greater communications and collaboration between employees in different divisions and different countries.”

Andy Yates at Umeco Components added, “The SORCE intranet raises the expectation level throughout the company. It provides us with the ability to communicate information to employees through a secure environment in a timely and accurate manner. As we operate in different time zones it also provides a single, reliable information repository that employees can access round-the-clock to read and update content and make full use of any of the business and collaboration applications that are built into our SORCE intranet.”
